Selten and Watch Ho & Co Jui Bring Craft, Culture, and Character on the Wrist

Background

Thanks to Jackie of Watch Ho & Co, we had the rare chance to handle this piece, even if only briefly while it was under embargo. Moments like that remind you why this hobby matters.

This watch is more than a design exercise. It is built around community. Every detail points back to the people who share a passion for watches and the bonds that grow from it.

Case

The Selten case has been made slimmer for this edition, giving it a refined and elegant frame. It feels well judged in proportion, neither too bold nor too slight. The polished surfaces catch the light softly, allowing the dial to remain the focus.

The overall shape is clean and balanced, supporting the story the dial is trying to tell.

Dial

The Tahitian Mother of Pearl dial is the true centrepiece. Shaped using precise CNC work, it reveals a mountain pattern inspired by armour worn by Ancient Chinese warriors. Here, the symbol speaks not of battle, but of unity.

Rings weave through the mountain design, echoing the connections within the watch community. At two o’clock, the Chinese numeral for 2 marks the two-year anniversary of a growing club, adding a quiet nod to heritage.

The sword-shaped hands were created just for this watch. While their form recalls strength, here they honour friendship instead of combat.

Each dial was hand-selected by Leo of Selten Watches. Around 30 percent were rejected in the search for perfection. The chosen dials passed under magnification and through multiple cleaning stages before earning their place. That level of care is easy to see once the light hits the surface.

Movement

Beneath the dial sits a dependable automatic movement Miyota 9039 fitted with a full rotor, ensuring consistent winding through daily wear. The rotor itself has been customised, adding a subtle layer of personality that ties the mechanical heart of the watch back to its broader story.

Adjustments through the crown feel precise and deliberate, with a reassuring resistance that speaks to careful assembly. The movement supports the watch’s slim profile while remaining unobtrusive, allowing the Tahitian Mother of Pearl dial to command attention without distraction.

What Would Make Me Happier

The watch already carries deep meaning, but I would be curious to see this concept explored further. Perhaps a future edition could experiment with a different natural material or a darker tone of Mother of Pearl, offering a new mood while keeping the same theme of unity.

The foundation is strong. Expanding on it carefully could allow the story of community and connection to grow even richer with time.
